I finally have the door looking more and more like a door. I’m sure I’m going about this bass-ackwards, but I’m beginning to feel happy about the results.
I’ve gone from this:
TO THIS

for routing the profiles, I used Whiteside 6001 matched pair rail & stile bits.
So next i will cut and assemble the box/carcase, so it will fit the glass shelves. Then I will trim down the door stiles to fit that size, with about 1/2” on both sides and the top as a stop for the door.
I’m thinking of removing the back section of the panel groove, and use the plywood back to hold the mirror in place. I need to ask for advice on that…
