My wife has requested some bedside tables, so I’ll be heading to Tulsa or Ok City this weekend to pick up some lumber. Our bed frame is oak, so I’d like to build out of quartersawn white oak. I’m going to try to match the bed color, which is like sample5 or 6 as shown in Mission Oak Finish by Jeff Jewitt.

Since most of my woodworking up until now has been on musical instruments, I’m looking forward to something a little different. It also will give me a chance to try out my new Mortise Pal!

Where are you getting your lumber from?
If you’re in the area, drop by, I’ll buy lunch.

Spamfilterman: I purchase lumber at Woodcraft in Tulsa, generally, and sometimes by mail. If you know other places in the Tulsa area that carry good hardwoods, I’d love to know about them. I’ll be tripping to Tulsa in the morning. I’d love to meet you sometime when you’re available; PM me if you’re available, otherwise we’ll connect on another trip to Tulsa.

Blayne, if you’re coming to OKC for lumber, I recommend two places that have a good selection of domestic hardwoods and will sell small quantities to hobbiests: Phoenix Hardwoods (around 98th and Western) and Central Hardwoods (downtown OKC). They are both great and WAY cheaper than Woodcraft!!! Good luck.
