Somewhere, in some magazine (probably Shopnotes) I remember seeing a homemade version of the Carter Bandsaw Blade Tension Quick Release pictured here:

  • Does anybody know where that article is?
  • Can you scan and post the photo/description?
  • Has anyone tried this?
  • Does it work ok?
  • Is it worth the trouble?

The Carter version is about $150 bucks. I’ve reached my spending limit on my bandsaw restoration.

Thanks!

I know what you are talking about. I’ll see if I can find it.

I’ve seen one in an older issue of FWW. There is a PDF for it I think.

Blake – I’ve looked through all my shopnotes and didn’t see it. Must be a different magazine.

I didn’t find anything on FWW web site.

But I found this

he referenced Woodsmith Issue 161 or e-mail him.

He also has pictures of the one he made Just click the first picture and then the arrow to see the next ones.

I saw it somewhere too. It was simple enough that I know you can make it with out plans, Blake. I’ve seen what you can do.

No, not too late, Gary. I’m glad you posted that. It looks like the original reference for the one that Karson found photos of (his link above).

It looks really simple and effective. But in the mean time, I did build mine and altered the design quite a bit. I posted it HERE.
Here is the one that you found again for everyone else to view: (Left side of page)
