Just a thought about your profile.... - 33 replies Sure would be nice if everyone would put a location in the profile section. Does not have to be anything more exact than a state or even a region. It would make responses more fitting. I see lots of questions about “where can I buy, how do I dry, tech support on equipment, etc.” Just my thoughts…..Bill |

Just a plane rehab tip for ya...... - 7 replies I rehab a bunch of planes. All the usual de-rust, tune, sharpen, etc.One tip I’ll pass is that about totes and knobs on the old Stanleys with the great rosewood.Unless they are just plain (don’t go there) crap, I will get out the buffing wheel, load it with green buffing compound, and give ‘em a good buff. Then, a coat of pas... |

Clear up something for me if you will..... - 6 replies I have my TS fence set with a slight outfeed offset for clearance. Fence is normally set to the right of the blade. I would change it for the rare work right of the blade to prevent pinch. Is this the correct procedure, or do ya set it exact with the infeed side of the blade? I seem to find different opinions. Imagine that! What do you guys do... |

Stupid me. I broke it. - 1 reply Cleaning up the shop this afternoon, hung a foot on the mobile base for the Magna (Shopsmith) band saw, pulled it over, and TRASHED the plastic front cover. Anybody got a Shopsmith 11” bandsaw front cover? The saw survived, but this sure crapped out my afternoon. |

Kinda/sorta a WWing topic (I guess). - 1 reply Anyone who might have cultured marble vanity tops…This is for you.I have sold miles of CM countertops over the years. My fabricator does very good work, but after the homeowner gets hold of the tops, uses them, and gets some surfaces lightly scratched, they want to know how to eliminate the blems. Ah HAH! The cure for the homeowner̷... |

Just how sharp is sharp???? - 6 replies I keep seeing more and more options to buy stones and stuff that will allow me to sharpen my planes/chisels to an almost impossible edge with a gazzilion micron edge. I sharpen with my Makita 9820 and waterstones with great results, and just don’t understand the need to end up with honing on 8000+ grit stones so that I will be able to tak... |

A suggestion for the new woodworkers - 25 replies My first project was to build a box. A SQUARE BOX!!!My shop instructor was a very basic fellow who thought that if ya couldn’t build square, you couldn’t build anything. Well, I thought that was a simple project a best. Sharpening info. Just a tip..... - 13 replies Though not related directly to woodworking, I do a lot of knife sharpening for a local kitchen specialty shop that sells high-end knives, etc. You can’t believe the condtion of some of the expensive knives I get, and am expected to rehab.I consider knife sharpening the same art as plane/jointer knife treatment, and certainly wouldn’... |

Getting help from the gang. - 0 replies I see lots of questions (good ones) that don’t have complete info about the subject.A question like “I can’t get a good finish on a board. What do I do?”, just doesn’t provide the background needed for a proper response. Full descriptions about the project is almost mandatory in order to elicit a helpful post.Pony ... |
