I got the same emails 2 times as I have another LJ login that I haven’t used in a while.

I got the same email which referred to a LJ name I no longer use. It looks like someone has obtained the LJ membership listing and is using it for a new venture.

Hmm me too. Seems like there are a lot of familiar faces on that site as well. I thought it was an offshoot of LJs, maybe not. I’ll continue to use this site over any other WW forum.

I got it too. I just hope the owners of LJ aren’t selling their membership list.
That would be too bad… too too bad. And that would make me rethink membership.
Maybe a little reassurance from the powers that be?????

Look at the bottom of this page and the email page and you will see that Lumberjocks and the emails are from the same company – Escalatemedia.com. I have no idea what they are peddling…or why have a separate site.

Would be nice to get an official response on the matter from Escalate Media… I got the same e-mail. It doesn’t look like a start-up site, as there’s a lot of forums/posts already. If I had to guess, they recently acquired that one as well, and trying to boost membership on it by spamming the LJ member list… bold move, in my opinion

Woodworking talk is another site. Its been around for a few years. Its more like woodnet. I think Mos may have hit it on the nose. I got the same email. I just deleted it. I am a member over there.

I can’t figure why they would want to canibalize their own site.

I’d guess it’s not necessarily canibalizing their own site, but rather boosting registration on their other site. Advertising revenue on websites is often determined by the amount of traffic, users, and unique visits per day/week/month. I’d be surprised if that’s not why they did it.

I have been a member over there for several years. They are all in the same bed, including The Router Forums.
