I gave up an office job 4 years ago, 32 years of office work, sitting in cubical for the last 25 years. Like most full time workers, I had very little time for hobbies. Between many overtime hours and home responsibilities there wasn't much left.
But thats all over now. So I now have the privilage of working in the shop. The first year of retirement I needed to remodel the 55 year old garage that was falling down, full of nests and in need of some serious expansion for my tools, etc. I had most of my tools in storage for 12 years because I had no place to work. Since 09 I have been back now full time in the shop. It is in many ways the best thing I could have done.
Its hard to live on 1/3 of what I was making. but the tradeoff for me is worth it. I live in a 600 sq. ft. house and now have a 1300 sq. ft. shop.
I started a model of a cathedral years ago now I'm going to bring in out of storage. I am doing the structure in hardwood. Maple, oak, and walnut.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
tom

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself just about 2 years ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
I apologize for the late welcome but I am currently serving overseas and don’t have a lot of spare time on my hands.

Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…

I been working on it steady since Oct 11. Last year I needed to stop for 8 month to build an addition to the house. Been cutting 1×2 for laminations for table tops, also started on making stock for 6 more support tables. This is a full time project for me, between making layouts and cutting stock, at times there is alot of un interesting work that needs to be done.
