Been involved in woodworking for several years now. I have my Dad's old Darra James lathe he bought in 1956. Still running strong. I did put a variable speed DC motor on it though. Took woodworking in shop class in high school in the late '60s. I enjoy seeing the character of the wood come out with a little TLC. Just finished a pendulum cradle for my neice for her first child. Made from American Beech that I cut myself, had sawed and kept it laying around for about 20 years to let it dry. It was plenty dry enough when I started working it. Of course I didn't need to let it dry that long, I just didn't have that "special project" come up that justified using it until now. I love the way it works, it is very strong and responds to cutting tools very well!
