Part 1: The design - 4 colors

This is my first attemp to make rounded joints… The design is simple and used two radii only so it is easy to set-up router circle jig. Here is the sketch up drawing. I like to have your ideas whether it is much better to use solid wood rather than veneer. My last project was so difficult to glue the veneer. I have no plans yet to the step by steps in making this design a reality… Just look at it first and probably you can suggest. Or you can try it…. TOP VIEW BOT...

Part 2: The Plan

Normal to each project to have a plan, written or only in the mind, working ahead is knowing what is next. Things available: The resources that are available. The essentials are: RouterRouter Jig – I will use the straight guide, compass and roller attachments… I have to make the curving jig if the compass attachment will not suffice.Routerbits… Got 1/8” dia x 1/2” (1/4 drive) straight bit – could be used for cutting the curve.Reamer bit 1/2 drive ...

Part 3: The Lid

Just to give you a progress… the lid is done. I was not able to make photos because I am pre-occupied. Well here it is….. My next plan is to have the other part (bottom) plus sides are to be constructed separately. The bottom will contain the ball. It was a nice adventure using a compass attachment to my router. This was constructed the same as Martyn’s EZ mitre and also my plan will be an upright world as this is patterned with Martyn’s inverted ...

Part 4: Design for the ball inside the box

The globe. My previous plan was a flat circle ball. Since it is still possible to make a ball a globelike structure. So be it. Here are the sketchup: If you have suggestion on how to make the globe without using a lathe, (just because I don’t have one.) Feel free. I think it is hard as hard when I designed it or drawn it in the sketch up. Thanks,
