Part 1: Veneer works - a new challenge

Though this has started from a new design THE POINT TO POINT and furthermore, I started building up the box. I am new to this veneering work. I am enjoying this. Maybe I can now realize some of my designs that really requires a lot of precision cutting. Using knife on straight cutting is not new to me. My father taught me a lot of techniques in cutting straight lines with paper. He had a bookbinding equipment that we normally cut the papers using a big knife which is specially sharpen...

Part 2: The Martyn's Mitre Way + David's Dado

Here is the progress…. I finished the 4 sides veneering… the top, the bottom and the two sides…. MARTYN’S WAY OF MITRE JOINT:As planned… the four side will be miter joint.. I used a router (portable) and use a guide that was clamped. I am a good follower of Martyn, so I stick two layers of tape on the outside face and make the 90 degree cut with 0.5mm left at the most. Made also the bevel cut for the lid cover (this will later be the lips). It is easily ...

Part 3: The finale

The hardest part of the series… the final part. I thought it would be simple to cut the lid. It should be easy to use a saw but that would create a kerf that will give error on the design. I use a knife (cutter) with a new blade and start to push it through on one corner then it goes on. The wood and the veneer still tough even with .5 thickness. There is no turning back on this…. The lips … I have to make 45 degrees cut by using the same 45 deg bit for my router. ...
