no previous part Part 1 of WEAVED BOX SERIES series no next part

Triple slat designs. I started using the scrap pieces excess from Narra flooring parquet. This was the result of squaring both sides of the cut using thicknesser jig I made. It was easily done even by 4 or 5 depending on the texture and grain orientation of the narra strips. The use of popsicle sticks was really proportional with the Narra.

Design Concepts I have started the three designs and manage to construct two using same concept with only variation on the black spaces by using 1) squares 2) using same width with varying length and 3) combining the 1 and 2. Here are the 3 variations: No.1 is posted as project, No.2 is awaiting and No. 3 is to be constructed.

No. 1

If you want to see you can see that this was posted as project. You can see that the black are equally cut through out. In the actual construction, I changed my mind on the edges. I have finished it with the same thickness that will allocate the hinge construction.

No. 2

My only purpose is to create a rectangular box and increase the depth of the box.

The actual construction on the side becomes so small that matches the squares motif of the No. 1 box. It is the result of even width of the ebony inserts. Notice that there is a slight difference in the length of the narra pieces.

The hinge is really amazing.. I use the Narra pieces as the moving sides for the cover while the black and narra became the fixed sides. Therefore I have to ensure that the construction of the lid hinge should be strong and centered.

Additional to the construction is the cross division on the bottom and movable tray on the top.

No. 3

Combining the 1 and 2, the 3rd will become a squares ebony pieces will be found in diagonal direction and rectangular on other direction. Inclusive of the sides that matches along the way. The plan is to make the hinge on one of the sides. This is still impossible. Some idea please.???

The No. 3 is under construction at this time and I will post the progress how it is done.

This weekend will be long enough to finish everything as it is long weekend. No office on Monday due it is Chinese New Year.

Till next update.
Have a nice day.
