Today, I have the chance of finishing the last 3 boxes. The target is only till tomorrow. In the morning, I have to be silent, there is no machine running and only handtools. Only in the afternoon that I was able to use my router and portable planer. Here is the progress…
The FIFTH box – This was in dovetail and made use of the technique of David’s Box (PATRON).. where you have to make the box complete with top and bottom cover then slice it. I was lucky because the hardwares were recycled from my router plywood box and it fits nicely. I just renewed the screws.
The 6TH box – This is also finished and only varnishing is left. I use a different kind of hinges. Ebony part is strong to hold the hinges though it is only 1/8” thick. A very light box.
The 7th box – This is still pending. I made a mistake in routing the rabbets for the top cover. Anyway, there is still a solution. I will add inlay to cover the mistake. It took me a bit long in dealing with the Narra bottom, so many tear out when I use the handplane. I manage to get it right using a planer. When I was routing the rabbets, the joint giveway and split… the glue was not yet dry… I continued gluing the bottom even the joints splits. I was lucky again because the rabbets done was a perfect fit.
So, next day will just be applying varnish to the 5th and 6th. Little bit of work for the 7th.
