« Part 1: New Year - New Project Part 2 of Chicken Coop series Part 3: Coop Complete. »

Well this weekend cooperated by not raining, so we were able to make some serious headway.

First on the agenda was to put the floor of the coop in, which we followed by the inside wall.

Here is the detail of the inside wall, showing the cut out for the door.

Once those tricky bits with cut outs were complete, the outside back and side panels went on like a breeze…

We put a roost inside 6” away from where the nesting boxes will be, and up at 11” high. Hope that’s not too high for the girls…

That only left the door to be installed…

And a latch to be made and installed.

Simple but effective.

Then I made the stairway for the girls to get to the coop…

So all that remains now, is to finish painting the exterior panels and exposed woodwork, put a rectangle of plywood across the top to form a roof, a screen door to go beneath the coop door, some 1/2” hardware cloth all around the run area downstairs and some lifting handles so we can move the coop, paint all the exposed new wood, and we’re done. Stay tuned…

-- Making sawdust in Bermuda. It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it!
