I am a new woodworker. I was asked to build a pergola by my wife, and since then I have been hooked. I am making much smaller and intricate projects now. I still need more practice than I can imagine, but I am willing to keep at it.
I am originally an Upstate New York boy raised in the sticks and the farm country of Western Pennsylvania. How I ended up in Los Angeles I'll never figure out. I have always enjoyed working with my hands. Unfortunately I have to use the brain to make a living.
My lovely wife has been nice enough to allow me to set up a shop in our garage. It isn't much yet, and I am finding organizing tools and supplies is more challenging than actually crafting a piece. The phrase "Where the hell is. . . ." can be heard quite often, and I finally figured out that any sentence that starts from the house with "Are you going to be out there all day... because I am going to make some plans if you are..." means drop what you're doing and get in the shower.
I am interested in making a buffet table, a vanity and shelf for the bathroom, and smaller projects just to have fun. So far I have made a potato bin and a small bookshelf.
Oh, and I need to build a simple 10x8 shed to get all the lawn machinery the heck out of the garage to make room for more wood and a router table!
I want to say that I really appreciate this site, and all the friendly folks I see here when I read the forums, and I wish you all the best of luck in wood and in life.

Welcome. You have found the right place for woodworking. A great group of people willing to help. Looking forward to see your projects and comments. Work safe in the shop and don’t forget to use pushsticks.

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself just about 2 years ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
I apologize for the late welcome but I am currently serving overseas and don’t have a lot of spare time on my hands.
Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
