Another CNC milling project from this weekend. 3 parts were milled out, the base, the sides and the top. Total machining time, and assembly, 7 minutes. total setup time, i don’t want to know!. the only problem was that I made the walls too thin, and suffered some chip-out. Also, I’m still having issues calibrating the depth for cutouts.

I originally made this pattern on the scrollsaw, but figured it was a good test for the CNC.

These were made from a chunk of maple firewood, so with no finish applied, It’ll be interesting to see what what happens when they dry. Now to buy a jaw chuck, so I can apply finish on the lathe.

Mixed wood end grain pizza board

My mother asked for a pizza board for christmas, so I decided I’d make one. This project was made from some old chunks of firewood I had laying around, and a few scraps found in the shop.

This project didn’t go as smoothly as planned. Right off, I had one smalll crack in the inner square that needed to be cut out and patched. then once the whole board was made (luckly not rounded) I had another MAJOR crack that had to be fixed. Several smaller cracks were filled with a sawdust/glue mixture that came out reasonably well.

Pine coffee table / chest

This is my First serious cabinet making attempt. Many thanks to Cameron, Bill and Chad for advice and help.

A friend asked me to build a coffee table for her, when she found out I had access to a shop, and gave me some very good mesurements to work with. My actual order was “About half the kitchen table long, and a bit narrower, with a split top for storage.”

I had a lot of fun working on it, and learned 2 things…
1) Box joints look good, but take forever to get right!, and glueing is a pain in the backside
2) Always use scrap wood to calibrate! I ended up making one panel over because I wasn’t sure about how to adjust the equipment.
