When wood turning, why is my wood checking? - 4 replies
When wood turning bowls, the end grain section always seems to contain checks or pits in the wood. This is quite frustrating because it seems that the only way around it is to sand the piece to death. My first instinct is to check the gouges to make sure they are sharp and they are. That said, I use a General International grinder with a pretty ...

Need 1/4" Ash Plywood or Look-A-Like in Iowa - 4 replies
I purchased several board feet of Ash over a year ago and I am now ready to use them to create an “armoire” storage case. For this project I need 1/4” Ash Plywood to use as part of the casing structure. However, the local stores where I live do not carry it unless someone knows differently. So, if you’re in Iowa (Close...

Ridgid Planer Rollers Slipping - 6 replies
I suppose it’s a good that my Ridgid planer leaves my boards silky smooth. However, my rollers slip on the board and I have to muscle it through. I’m afraid this is going to lead to a dangerous situation in the future. I’ve heard that planers might not do so well in cold whether because it “hardens” the rollers. ...

Sending Messages to Non Buddies - 4 replies
It appears that if I want to send a message to a fellow lumberjock, they need to be on my buddy list. Can we change this so we can send a message to any lumberjock? We are getting so many members that it is hard to be forced to add people to my buddy list just to send a message to them. Thank you.

Online Photo Storage Advice - 7 replies
I would like people’s advice about the various sites that allow free photo storage. As I begin blogging projects I would like to share my photos but I’m not familiar with places like flickr.com or photobucket.com. What are your opinions about these sites and do you have suggestions for other sites? Thank you.

Thinning Glue - 13 replies
A few of years ago I became really ambitious and purchased TiteBond II glue in the gallon jug. I’ve only used a quarter of it since then and now the glue has gotten stiff. Does anyone know a way to get it loosened up? Lacquer thinner seems to thin about everything else but I don’t know if that would be worthwhile for glue.

Jointer Advice for an Unheated Garage - 8 replies
Does anyone know which 6” jointer on the market would handle temperature fluctuations the best or am I worried for nothing? I have my eye on General International’s 6” jointer with the extra long feed tables. However, I’m worried that with the long feed tables, the temperature fluctuations in my garage will either temp...
