121 woodworkers have donated to this website out of over 6,500 woodworkers who use it. I won’t say it.
As a donor, I know that while my contribution wasn’t large…at least I contributed something. My return to viewing Lumberjocks started about a week ago when I came back to this website after a hiatus from my shop, etc…family needs and such. Again, I was inspried to do something more in my shop from what I saw here. I’m “one-man-power” and not perfect since I also have to take care of the house and my elderly mother’s need. But the inspriation from Lumberjocks gave me a kick in the ass to do something more in my shop. Thanks everybody!
So I’m finally building the wood storage system I’ve had planned for a year or more. And….I disassembled the used lathe I bought at a garage sale in order to refurbish it’s partially rusted stand. For me, that’s getting something done. The inspiration came from looking over this website…again. More than anything I’d like to post some beautiful projects as many of you have done…just putting my shop in order has been my project.
Well, I have to have the wood storage since I scored the maple tree three years ago….the 8/4 flitches are dry and ready to use. And soon…in another 6 months, I’ll have 5/4 elm dry and ready to use….with 8/4 flitches on the way to being dry. Gosh, do you think I ought to have a good workbench? from maple and elm? Could be beautiful. Or should I use some other woods? At my speed it’ll take two years just to make the workbench…well, maybe not…but with so many inspiring workbenches pictured on this website it might take me alot less time. That’s why I’m pitching ya’ll to dig in your pockets and toss a few bucks at this website. I’d like it to be here in a few more years to keep inspring me day after day. Thanks.

we can also give by buying LJ merchanidise, or shopping amazon via the links below… SO there are certainly more financial support than the 121 donors who’ve simply sent cash… I’m just sayin. We’re all grateful to Martin for giving us this site to share and inspire, and we’ll not let it go away.
welcome back to LJ!

I hear you on shop setup and on contribution. One thing that Martin doesn’t do here is smack us over the head with it. Honestly I didn’t even know that there was such a thing until I was cruising the lounge one day. Once I knew about it I donated a little. Not much, but it was what I felt compelled to put up. When my FWW membership comes up next year I will re-up here as well.
While I can appreciate the site not asking outright I feel that it is somewhat of a disservice to keep it so quiet that members may not actually know.
Anyhow, welcome back. Hopefully life will let you get to making sawdust before long.

‘nuff said…it seems like maybe I won’t comment on this again…I guess I was just inspired and felt grateful and wanted to express that gratitude in some way.

Here, Here, I’ve been here, wait I have to check 794 days, and I remember when I first came on I was bugging Martin so much I was sure he was gonna kick me off the site, just from being so computer ignorant. Martin never got angry, he always answered my questions, the problems I was having was 99!/2 % my fault, yet he was always patient and helpful. Of course we were only a few hundred strong back then and he probably had a little more time. I have never heard him beg for donations or even intimate that he needed our donations so out of all of the membership there should be more than 121 people showing appreciation for what he has freely given us, because there may come a time when you may be asked to pay to keep it going, it is growing very rapidly, and his needs have got to be growing by leaps and bounds. I’ll now get off my soapbox.

Hello Barry, I would like to thank you for stopping by and posting what you did in my blog (?). I’m very new here and don’t really feel like what woodworking I do is even close to what most folks here do, but what you said made sense to me and gave me a smile, and I really appreciate that you took the time to sit there and think about it and type it out. That means a lot to me. And I agree with you about donating back. I’m getting a lot of information and feedback here and I will happily contribute as I can when I can.
Thank you again!
