I have always had a fascination with woodworking. As a child I had a neighbor, who every Saturday morning would fire up his table saw to cut some stock. I would hear it fire up and go running to his shop. I would stand outside the door and just watch him as long as he would allow it. I loved the smell of wood dust, and of course his thing was making wooden toys.
I had never thought I would be able to afford an entire shop like he had, so within the last year or so I started woodturning. You don't really need a full woodworking setup to do this. My friend at work is a former woodworker turned woodturner, so I started to go to woodturning meetings with him. I am a member of AAW and Southern Piedmont Woodturners. This only satisfies my woodworking bug a little bit. You can make some awesome stuff in woodturning, but its not the same as making a family dining table, or a heirloom quality chest.
I believe woodturning is just a part of the whole woodworking world and is very important in its role. I was content just woodturning until I seen Tommy Mac on TV making some really impressive furniture. I looked him up on the internet and found you guys. Here I am.
I am slowly building a woodworking shop, starting with wood planes. Which I have found some really useful info on this website thus far rehabbing them. Thank you for the vast information and expertise you all offer freely.
