Vivian's Bathroom Cabinet

My mother-in-law remodeled her bathroom and after completing decided she needed a utility/linen closet. She asked if I could make her one and of course I said yes. The hard part was that I hoped to build and stain to match her store bought vanity, but it was next to impossible for someone with my experience. So, I built it out of poplar and decided to paint. The good thing about painting though was that I got to build my first raised panel doors using my tablesaw and the paint will hide some of those little things that didn’t work perfect. Hopefully she want even notice. The cabinet won’t match the other exactly, but hopefully it will complement that corner of her “new” bathroom.

Another and last edition to Ben’s Bedroom Suit. Completed, except for installing a ceiling fan. Well, I might have to build him a desk one day.

You may have noticed since the bed pictures that the room has been painted now suitable for a young lad. My boy is growing up.

Ben's Chest of Drawers

Finally completed part 2 of Ben’s Bedroom Furniture. Boy, was this a challenge for me. I realize more than ever how important correct dimensions and squareness are when building a chest with flush drawers. Wasn’t perferct, but still looks pretty good for a boy’s bedroom.

Next will be the nightstand to complete the set.

Camp Kitchen

My dad, two brothers and all of our sons try to go camping together at least twice a year. We don’t do much other than sit around the fire, do a little day hiking, but mostly have an excuse to EAT well. On our last trip I mentioned to my dad that we need a camp kitchen to make our efforts more organized and easier. I had planned on buying one of those fold up aluminum type units because that is all I had seen. But apparently this got my dad thinking and next thing I knew he was sending me this website ( www.blueskykitchen.com ) and said we ought to build one instead. Well mom and dad came up for a weekend and now we have a great camp kitchen that should last much longer than those aluminum type.

We made the unit out of red cedar and oak plywood. It’s designed so that you keep all your stuff inside and the unit fits together like a puzzle making a box that you can carry and transport easily.

Bookshelf

My wife wanted a book shelf for my son and had saw one in a Pottery Barn magazine that she liked. I came up with my own plan and built one similar, but better of course. This started out to mimic the firehouse bookshelf that pottery barn had, but I didn’t put the pole in it or cut outs for windows. We decided to go with more the outdoor theme. As you can see the baby’s room needs to be painted again more suitable for a 6 yr old boy and add one of those canoe book shelfs to the room.

Somewhat challenging, especially glueing the bow, but is a nice addition to the home. I ended up making two of them and now my brothers want one.
