I have recently starting scratching the itch that has been the desire to finally get into woodworking. I have wanted to do this for a long time, but never had the opportunity to really start until recently.
Some friends of ours moved into a new house and were needing some furniture. They had seen some projects on Pinterest made from crates and were going to ask someone else to make them, but I saw my opportunity and jumped on it. There began the journey into many YouTube videos and trips to the stores to buy tools.
I still have some finish work to do, but I was excited about my progress and wanted to share what I had so far. Keep in mind that the “customer” wanted the rustic, rough look.
Both the desk and the bookcase are made with used crates from the local farmers market. The crates are “framed” with 1/2” Birch Plywood from HomeDepot (I know, go to a lumber yard for better plywood) and have either 1×3 or 1×6 supports on the back. The desktop is a panel made of 3 1×6s. I used pocket holes to create the panel.
Let me know what you think. I’ll post the finished products to the Projects section once the finish work has been completed and they are in the house.
