Kitchen shelves #1: Floating shelves

My niece is remodeling her kitchen. She is on a tight budget. She wanted to use floating shelves instead of upper cabinets. The idea is to not have and supports visible on the finished shelf. Her Dad did some research and found a method where metal rods are used to hold the weight. This looked like it would work but could be troublesome to line everything up with tight fitting holes. We decided to use 3/8” threaded rod. We bolted the rods to some solid backing between the studs, (sorry no pics of the backing). These rods will support three 45” long shelves.
