San Antonio, TX

At the moment, I just have a corner in the garage where I store my hand-me-down Craftsman table saw and miter saw. My plan is to clear out enough space for an outfeed table/workbench and my table saw and then go from there. First step, lighting.

Gotta start somewhere, but at least it’s a start! Welcome to LJs!

The picture is from a few years ago when I added the Gladiator cabinets and all the shelving. The stuff in the foreground and on the right isn’t there anymore, it’s been replaced by other stuff. That’s what needs to be cleared out.

I’ll have, from the face of the cabinets, about a 9×15 space with work in. That leaves enough room for the wife to get her car in and out without hitting anything.

The yellow cabinet was my dad’s. It’s been around at least as long as my earliest childhood memories (I’m 58). I want to put a new tool chest and cabinet there so I need to find a new place for it.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. Sounds like we have about the same amount of shop space. You mentioned getting your shop lighting up and going first. Please know that I am Lumberjocks’ resident shop lighting expert … just ask around. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Love the ambiance. You do your best work by the light of the moon?

I bought the Barrina T5 LED lights from Amazon. 6, 4ft lights that can be daisy-chained. They’re going up this weekend. 2 over the car side and 4 over my side.

LOL! Only if I have to. I have a skylight that lets in light, but no artificial light as I’m 100% unplugged.

Not even solar powered?

One of my older brothers homesteaded up in NE Washington (he’s since moved to town). He built a yurt and set up some solar panels with batteries, so he wasn’t totally unplugged, but close enough compared to us city dwellers.

Not even solar powered! I use no electricity … all hand tools! Again, welcome to Lumberjocks … this is a great site … I look forward to seeing your projects.

Got the new lighting installed sooner than I expected. When band practice gets cancelled, you get busy in the shop, right?

Band? Good news, Ron plays the fife! Time to jam.

Good luck with the shop Awl, post some projects and progress pics when you can.

I live in San Antonio and found this website on Pinterest. I am retiring from the Air Force and was looking up shadow box ideas. Are you able/willing to build a quick custom request? I have a few ideas and have been trying to find someone local to get quotes and begin the process. I would need the box by 20-21 April to have my team input all the memorabilia. If you are able to assist, please contact me at jessicka.b123@gmail.com

Thanks!
