Kreg Bandsaw Fence is a Keeper

Kreg Bandsaw Fence is a Keeper

05-29-2018 03:15 PM by pintodeluxe | 15 comments »

This Kreg fence was chosen as replacement for the factory fence on my early 90’s Jet bandsaw. The old Jet fence had tubular front and rear rails, and was cumbersome to lock into place. You actually had to tighten two separate knobs. My other complaint was the Jet fence rails stuck out several inches to the right, and I was always backing into them and jabbing my ribs. So out with the Jet, and in with the Kreg. The really great thing about the Kreg fence is that it’s located within the foot...

Timbery Sawmill M100 Electric

Timbery Sawmill M100 Electric

12-30-2017 09:06 PM by Rebarn | 9 comments »

We have had our Timbery M100 Electric Sawmill for 5 years now. We have run this machine with a lot of respect…and not really “hard” by comparison to full time sawyers. But we have put this saw to work to make money in our shop and it has performed well for our needs of resawing large beams into lumber and mantels. It’s an electric mill, which is exactly what I needed for our shop. It has a 5HP electric motor. We have an 18 foot bed on the saw. The housing for t...

The most useful accessory in my shop

The most useful accessory in my shop

I’ve had a Wixey saw fence digital readout for many years. I bought one when they first came out and recently had to replace the readout unit as mine finally quit working. During the short period of time I was without it, while waiting for the replacement to arrive, I realized how much I rely on this little miracle gadget. Pricing is reasonable too – $120 for a complete set up and $28 for a replacement readout. For those of you that don’t have one, the readout slides ...

Oh the joy upon my eyes

Oh the joy upon my eyes

I bought this Wixey WR 550 for Christmas but just got around to installing in on my Jet 15” planer. I followed fellow LJ “jwisbey” for installation after reading his review. I did not have spare metric socket head bolts so had to go to Ace Hardware to grab a couple. Whalla. Easy installation and easy calibration. Verified with calipers. The first run was off by 0.003.I originally purchased this because my eyes are starting to get old so the big numbers on the LCD scree...

Wixey WR 550 - Excellent addition to an old 15" Planer

Wixey WR 550 - Excellent addition to an old 15" Planer

11-17-2011 04:24 AM by jwisbey | 5 comments »

I recently installed a Wixey WR 550 digital readout to a 20 year old Bridgewood BW15P 15” planer. I purchased it from Amazon for $79 dollars. The contents were well packed in the box. The reason I purchased this readout was due to the various options for installation on a machine. With my planer being so old, I wasn’t sure if I could find a digital readout for it. The installation took about 20 minutes, with most of the time determining where the best place to install it wa...

Planer has been a horse - till I went to rotate the carbide cutters.

UPDATE: When I bought this planer 18 months ago, for some reason I also bought a pack of ten cutters. When I received the planer, I found a very small black piece of cardboard with a little blister pack stapled to it, with a couple of extra cutters. Completely forgot about it and put it with the odd wrenches we all have to collect. In this case, in a clear container with my router table wrenches, planer wrenches, and jointer wrenches, since the tools all sit pretty close to each other in my...

Great Tool for some tasks

Great Tool for some tasks

I have been using my Flatmaster drum sander (http://stockroomsupply.ca/shop/drum-sanders/18-flatmaster.html) for 2 years now and thought that I had something yet to add to the previous reviews for this product. Set-up:I purchased my Flatmaster complete with the metal top sans the motor; married it with a NIB – OS Dayton motor. Assembly and motor installation / setup was straight forward and easy enough. That said I had interference between the belt and my housing, the opening in the h...

Rikon 2HP Dust Collector with Jet Vortex Cone

Rikon 2HP Dust Collector with Jet Vortex Cone

For the longest time I would use my PSI DC1B-XL for my dust collection needs, but since I upgraded my jointer from a 6” to an 8” and my planer from my lunchbox to a new 3hp spiral cutter I have been buying my lumber in the rough from a local dealer. When I started to get my lumber this way I quickly realized I needed a bigger dust collector. I have read numerous reviews from this webpage and others about the HF 2hp dust collector so I grabbed my coupon and off I went to get my b...

Project EVS Vacuum pump

Project EVS Vacuum pump

11-28-2014 03:04 AM by iminmyshop | 5 comments »

There are many different kinds of vacuum presses. Wading through which you need can be daunting. Buying a vacuum system can also be costly. I went with the EVS Project at http://www.veneersupplies.com/pages/DIY__Vacuum__Press.html. These pumps require putting some parts together and some very simple wiring. I had never done this sort of thing. I’m a woodworker, not an electrician and had no idea what a manifold was. But everything I read about the company from its customers was very po...

Comfortable, Safe Dust Mask

Comfortable, Safe Dust Mask

09-08-2014 01:14 AM by CharlesA | 23 comments »

I’m not that good at wearing the disposable dust masks that I have. I just don’t like them. So, I end up not wearing them all the time. I was reading one of Bill Pentz's pieces on dust collection, and he emphasized how importance it was to wear a good dust mask and recommended this 3M 7500 series mask (7501 is small, 7502 is medium, 7503 is large—I use the medium). I assumed it was really expensive. Turns out that to buy the mask and a set of 3M 6001 Organic Vapor Car...
