So… After being sick most of last week and all four kids being on fall break this week… I haven’t had much time to get on LJ’s. And when I got up this morning I didn’t even know what I had planned for today either. But it was decided for me pretty quickly. There was a knock at the door literally within five minutes ...

Hmmmm…..???? Lets see about this. Some may say that my passion for woodworking is off cause I’m a girl. And yes… I’m a girly girl. My favorite color is pink. I like chick flicks (and action & suspense & thriller lol). I absolutely love men (no offense).... And yes… I LOVE power tools and building things. BUT...

Plywood is not my friend. - 34 replies
Well… Usually I get all my lumber free. Needed to buy some plywood though. That’s one thing I never find free. So I went to Lowes and bought me a sheet of 1/4 pine ply. Wasnt sure of the exact dimensions (plus I don’t trust their measuring). So instead I just had them cut it in half for easier transport. Ugh! Yep̷...

Ok. So… I’ve been making this shoji frame (room divider) for my mom. (Thanks to JSB for the plans and video). I had it all ready to stain and finish. My mom and I had discussed what she wanted for the inside panels. BUT… I decided to bring her over and show it to her before I went any further… JUST TO BE SURE. LOL Here...

Last year I found that our community had a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. If you haven’t heard of it before they are amazing. Well… if you are like me and love that kind of stuff it is. :) Last weekend they had their annual warehouse sale. It’s when they open up their warehouse to the public. This warehouse is where they stor...

Shop safety at a young age :) - 13 replies
You may have seen my post from yesterday about the new compound miter saw I got for my birthday from my mom yesterday. My shop is all clean and I was out there today filling some holes with wood filler and I had a special little guy come out and help me. He thought my shiny new saw looked cool and wanted to see it work. BUT…. Before I was ...

So… My birthday is this coming Thursday. While working on the shoji frame today my miter saw decided to throw another fit today. So my dear sweet mother bought me a new miter saw today. I LOVE IT!!! I could have gotten something bigger but I’m completely happy with this. I got the Kobalt 10” Sliding Compound Miter Saw. I...

I guess some cleaning is in order.... - 51 replies
I walked into my shop and just froze at the door. Somehow in my mind… I had left it a bit cleaner than this. Looks like I’m going to need to do some cleaning up. I’m a messy woodworker and throw things everywhere… But what the heck was I thinking? I usually don’t leave it this much of a mess. Maybe it just says that...

Why do people continue to throw away good wood??? - 29 replies
Can you believe this was in the “burn pile”??? Why would they throw this away? Of course… I saved them a match and kindly hauled it away to my garage where I have nice plans for it. :) Kids go back to school tomorrow. Life has been crazy busy the last two weeks and I’m hoping it will calm down after tomorrow and I ...

Another great score today! Books and wood - 30 replies
I got super blessed today. A friend of mine came up to me today and told me she had something for me. She ran across this guy that was throwing away (GASP!!!) a huge lot of books. She went through them and found 12…. Yes TWELVE old woodworking books. She immediately thought of me and snagged them before they ended up in the burn pile. There a...

While I am frustrated at the comment that was made to me and I realize that connotation is lost in writing sometime… Know that I take it all in stride and laugh. So… I had a comment made to me. I guess it was more of a question. “So… you think you want to be a woodworker?”. At first I hesitated because I felt lik...

So… I’m home sick today. Been sick ALL weekend and haven’t been able to do anything in my shop. So I’ve been spending my time on YouTube watching videos and on LJ’s. I decided to google “french cleats” to get some ideas. I’m going to be redoing my shop soon. It’s not set up the way I want it ...

So, a week ago marked the deadline for the ex husband to have all of his things out of the garage and house. There was a large freezer and a kitchen table. I won’t miss the freezer as it was plugged in and hadn’t been used. One less drain on my electric bill. I did however use the kitchen table But… now I have some more room to...

A different kind of woodworking.... - 41 replies
The first week of June I went on a building trip in Brookville, OH. It’s about three hours away and was a week long adventure. We were helping build an addition to a church’s sanctuary. I was very curious to see how many women would be there. And to my surprise…. there were ALOT. THEN… I realized that all those women (alt...

Lately I have gotten some nice new tools. And I’ve hit my limit for how much I can/will spend on anything for a while. One thing I do need though is a drill press. Need??? Maybe WANT is a better term. But I found this little drill press. I know it’s not what I want, because I want a big one that can do more. But I could still use ...

I remember when I moved out on my own and got married and we started buying furniture for our home. I always liked the solid wood pieces and could not stand the particle board stuff. It seems that I always gravitated toward oak. I loved oak! Interesting enough… I did not like anything cherry. I never bought one single thing that was cherry...

So far most of my projects have been finished with MinWax stain. I’ve found that at times… I just don’t want to stain them. I do have a few projects that I built that are sitting in my shop, just waiting to be finished. I have a couple of pine, an ash and I’m also working on some things with cherry. So I’d like to p...

Upcycle some old drawers - 10 replies
I don’t want to post this in the gallery because its not a “woodworking project”.... But… It kinda is. So I thought I’d just post it here instead. On one of my trips to get some free wood I was asked if I wanted some drawers. They were from a desk. The desk was trashed and he had salvaged as much wood as he could. W...
