The mother-in-law has been nagging me to build this “table” for about a year. The problem is, she wants something different every time I talk to her about it.
She’s settled on 79”x30” at about 38” tall. She wants square legs, 3 sides enclosed, and two shelves.
Oh, and she wants it made out of knotty pine to look distressed.
So I started it last weekend. Went to Home Depot for some 2×6’s and 2×4’s. Then i glued then squared up two 2×4’s for the legs. They’re not actually square though. 3 1/4” x 2 5/8”.
Today I started on the top. Got the 2×6’s at 1 1/4” thick and ready to glue up. Once I get the top done, I’ll use it as my workbench to bang it up quite a bit.
Here’s a couple pics I took just before I came in this evening.

Now I had what I thought was something crazy happen when I was ripping one of the top pieces. They were all about 5 3/8” wide and I figured I’d make them 5 1/8”.
There just so happened to be a knot right on the cut line. I saw it but didn’t think anything about it.
I did though when I heard the blade hit it. Made this odd higher pitched sound.
Well I was looking right at it as I continued to feed the board through and that knot came free and flying straight at me. Of course it was flying at like 100 mph so I had zero time to duck. Freakin thing popped me right over my right eyebrow. Just above my sun/safety glasses.

Good thing you aren’t 1-1/2” shorter! We’d have to start calling you Captain Morgan!! Lol.
Seriously, glad you are OK. Just a subtle reminder for future knotty cuts.

One of the rules of woodworking, be carefull when your cutting
something that is called “Distressed”......
Glad it was only a flesh wound.
