Just watched Ep. 1 of The Woodwright's Shop - 4 replies

Boy, what a disappointment. Roy didn’t cut himself once. Not a drop of blood was shed. There was a moment of hope when a splitting wedge fell near his toe, but he escaped unharmed. I now know how the next few days will be spent. What a blast I am going to have watching these early seasons!

Losing my beehive - 10 replies

to wax moths. Been a month since I opened the hive. In that time, wax moths have established themselves and taken over. Nothing left to do but wait. This makes me indescribably sad. sigh

How much is too much? - 12 replies

One of my big areas of inexperience is glueing up panels. I’ve done it, but I’m not very good at it. I’ve read very mixed things, in particular, about clamp pressure. Fine Woodworking did a test that concluded that the best bond comes from using just about as much clamp pressure as you can generate. But in the old days, a simpl...

A friend of mine posts on fb . . . - 23 replies

“Swore I’d never own another compressed wood desk. But, I needed one today that was cheap and instant. You win again, Sauder.” It sort of makes me cringe to hear that. I’ve noticed that I can buy Ray Iles pigsticker mortise chisels here at a substantial discount from the price available stateside. I realize that one or two sizes of mortise chisel are probably suffi...

Wanted to buy: Soviet Era Russian Hammer - 3 replies

Hi, I’m an economics teacher, and I’m interested in showing my students the difference between the products society gets when the person who decides what features a product should have doesn’t actually have to use the product himself (or deal with the people who do). I was hoping to find one of these: http://blog.woodw...

HTC 50" Rail Set -- Free in KC area - 7 replies

I have a set of brand new, in box, 50” rails. I know the HTC fence will work with these rails, but I also think that any other t2-type fence would. I’m cleaning out the garage. If anyone wants them, please let me know.

Need help aligning table saw - 10 replies

I recently purchased a very lightly used Jet contractor’s saw, and plugged it in today for the first time. When I checked, the blade was skewed to the miter slot by about 1/16 of an inch front to back. So I spent some of the afternoon loosening the trunnion bolts, installing a PALS kit, and trying to get things lined up. At the end of...
