Do guys with portable sawmills trade lumber milled for services? - 9 replies

I have a couple of very tall and straight oak trees next to my house I’d like to have milled, they’re about 38” in diameter and a good forty feet tall with most of the main trunks one long straight run. Before I look for a guy with a mill what should I expect them to charge? Do they charge by the bf? Do they trade for some of t...

Replacement name plates for Unisaw - 3 replies

I’ve searched and couldn’t find anyone that sells replacement name plates for unisaws. The PO of my saw cleaned the name plate with lacquer thinner and rubbed a lot of it off. I’m also looking for the name plate that goes down the center of the door. Anyone know where I might find these?

What the heck is this thing? - 42 replies

I found this in my driveway recently and can’t figure out what the hell it is! It’s about two inches long, it has spiral threads running all the way down the taper to a 3/4” nut head. I’ve shown it to a lot of people in many proffesions and so far no one knows.

Unisaw binding when I angle the blade - 4 replies

This morning I was making a cut and needed to angle the blade on my Unisaw, at about 20 degrees it has a slight bind, I took the motor cover off and peered around underneath and can’t find anything stuck or binding anywhere. I noticed this a week ago as well but I couldn’t get it to happen again, now it happens every time I tilt the ...

I just bought a new INCRA 1000SE miter so now I need to square my Unisaw - 14 replies

I’ve been wanting to replace the four Delta miters I use with an INCRA miter for a long time so I finally ordered a 1000SE that will be here tomorrow. I’ve been using the four miters I have for years, I set each one at angles I use most often and cranked them down so they wouldn’t move and still had to mess with them all the ti...

Finish disasters - 10 replies

I’m sitting in the corner of my shop waiting for the lacquer to harden between coats and started thinking of all the awful things that have happened while applying a finish. When I first started spraying my projects I bought a cheap gun from Sears, the cap would never thread right and would fall off. I was spraying the top of a toy box wit...

I really dislike staining pine. I also need to get rid of a blue mold stain - 14 replies

I have a fairly endless supply of free 1X12X48” pine and will be using a lot of it in the near future. I hate trying to get a descent finish on it. Right now I’m building a rocking chair and am ready to finish it but hate the look of pine stained, I can never get an even finish, it always looks blotchy and unless I select the pieces ...

How can I round over a compound edge? - 10 replies

I’m building a rocking chair for my daughter and can’t figure out how to round over the seat front. I hollowed out the seat and the front edge and am looking for a way to do this consistently, I don’t mind doing it by hand with a rasp but wanted to make sure there isn’t an easier way to get a clean, consistent edge. Any s...

New guy. Need a new switch for my Unisaw - 7 replies

The 4 hp Leeson motor in my Unisaw recently let out its smoke, found a great deal on a new one but not sure if I should reuse or replace my mag switch. My saw came with a 4hp leeson motor and mag switch but I just found out the switch is rated for a 3hp motor. It’s rated for 20 amps and the circuit breaker it runs on is 20 amp and never bl...
