From a picture #1: The design process

no previous part Part 1 of From a picture series no next part

This started out in the forum as a question to see if there was an easy way to go from a picture, to a design, to a plan. Turns out, unless you have someone else do the dirty work… There isn’t.

My brother and sister-in-law have asked me to build them a kithen booth that looks like this: Picture

So I spent a few hours on Sketchup and came up with this rough draft: Concept

It still needs to be refined some, but I can’t do that until I have a little input from them. Let me know what you think so far.

Matt, that looks like it is coming along nicely. As you say, some refinement needed but you’re well on your way.

If you choose to make working drawings in SketchUp, be sure to make components of the parts as you go. You should manage qquite well. My offer to help is open any time.

Looks like you are doing well. The picture shows the bottom front of the booth with a curved panel. The drawing does not show this. A curved panel (like the picture) or a slanted panel would allow better movement of your feet when you are sitting at the table. (IMHO)
