I’m pretty sure im going to build a blanket chest for my wife for our second anniversary (holds the cotton!). I’m still in the design phase, and got this far with Sketchup. I have not filled in all the joinery, and dont plan to since there’s no need: The carcass will be assembled with loose tenons, so all parts will be milled to dimension and the joinery will follow easily enough. The top will be breadboarded. Most tenons will be doweled more for accent than strength....

Part 2: ARGGGG!!!! crack split in glued up panel

so i had completely glued up the panel that is to become the top of the blanket chest I’m building, when all of a sudden i notice a MASSIVE crack in one of the boards right along the grain. It’s in the nicest piece too, with grain shifting towards quarter-sawn texture. CRAP. I guess that’s one of the hazards with using reclaimed wood… stuff could have been abused in its previous incarnation. anyway, I basically bent it until it snapped along the grain and am now ...
