the last 12-days deal. I did order it, figuring on the good return policy at lowes, in case there is something horrible about this thing. Otherwise, this router specs out very well for my purposes, and WAY better than the Skil clunker i’ve been using. 13A, 1/2” collet, soft start/vari speed, dust port, two bases… it all checks out. i cant find many reviews of the thing, and some have been stellar, and some have been bad. I do know that Freud is generally a good brand, but I dont know what this whole Avanti line is about, other than I’m using a Avanti 3 bit set and they seem very well made, are holding a fine edge so far, and all that. Seems like it’s in the Dewalt, PC, Bosch range, which is where I need to be. Festool is probably way overkill.

Sounds like a great deal. Do they have them in the stores or only online?

hey karson – it says its only online, but i think it ships to the store… i dont know exactly what the story is, but the shipping is free, so it doesnt really matter. at least to me, where the store is only 1 mile away.

This is a good deal. Peachtree Woodworking is selling the same router that is discounted only to $124.99.

Aaron,
How are you doing with the Freud router. I just bought one this weekend for $129.00 at Woodcraft. I thought I was getting a good deal until I saw your post! I have not tried it yet.

ellen – haven’t had a chance to break it out in the shop yet. Out of the box it seems ok – solid, good features, etc. a couple critiques so far though:

1. the fine depth adjust knob has some play in it, which doesn’t matter all that much, but if you’ve got a fine adjust, why not make it tight?

2. the dust port attachment seems a tight squeeze in there.

3. it’s almost impossible to get everything back in the case the right way once you’ve taken it out. but that wont matter in the long run.

4. the plunge depth turrets are kind of lame, IMHO. and the pin that hits the turrets actually hits an angled part of those screw heads, and if you dont use the turrets, it hits an angled part of the base. that seems kind of stupid to me, but maybe i’m missing something.

all in all though, i’m sure it will be a really great tool. sorry i coulnt provide you with more!

I saw the same kit today, Tuesday Jan 6, in the Laguna Calif HD store for $99.00 +tax.
Not sure if these would be in all of their stores or not but worth a call if your interested.

I’m more interested in just the motor ot permanently mount in a router/lift table so I don’t have to shuffle between hardware setups. Also, it would be nice to have the other 2 bases for this router, if and when I did want to.

I’ll see if swrtw will let me get an after Christmas toy.

might as well get the kit – the fixed base has an above the table adjustment “port” so you wont need a separate lift system.

looks like they’re having this deal in lots of places.

Have your say...
