I went back and ripped down the front and back legs from 5.5” to 4” wide; it definitely looks better, much more symmetrical. I finally framed up the whole assembly today.
I received the new router bit I ordered, it only took a couple of days, pretty good in my book. Unfortunately none of the practice pieces seemed to work very good. I didn’t like the way the bead board looked and even with a 1/2” deep groove, there just didn’t seem to be enough support for the bead board. So, I changed the plan again and decided to just put the bead board against the frame from the inside of the toybox. I then put a small “cap” board with a rabbetted edge to hold the upper bead board panel in place and I will also put a smaller retaining wood strip against the bottom of the bead board to hold it in place.
Front Bead Board Panel in place:
Right Side Bead Board Panel:
Left Side Bead Board Panel:
Bottom Panel:
Not sure how much I will get done tomorrow, I am going to buy a new TS (RIGID) at HD to replace my very old HF TS. There is not enough room in the garage for the new TS, so it will go into the spare bedroom until I get this project done. I am quickly running out of time. Still need to cut the top down to size, install the back bead board panel, make and install a board btwn the two back legs to act as a back support for the bench when someone is sitting on it, and need to permanently mount the back board of the top, which will not be part of the top that will lift up. Then need to install the piano hinge and lid supports for the top, then sand, stain and apply finish. Wish me luck.

Good start Pat, can’t wait to see it finished!
I love my pocket hole jig.

Great, one of my next projects is a toy box. Thanks to you I will also be using my pocket hole jig, just needed some inspiration. The bead board looks just fine. and should give it a old time feel once it’s done up. I made some M&T Joints this weekend and used the pocket hole to secure it for glue drying in stead of clamping it, It worked fine and I went right to the finish. What a time saver!
